GelrinC is an acellular biodegradable implant designed to treat focal cartilage defects and aid cartilage regeneration. GelrinC is composed of a finely-tuned combination of polyethylene glycol di-acrylate (PEG-DA) and denatured fibrinogen, crosslinked with UVA light in-situ. This results in a dense hydrogel matrix that prevents the uncontrolled infiltration of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) into the defect and the formation of fibrous tissue as typically is observed after a microfracture procedure. As the GelrinC implant degrades, it is replaced by regenerated cartilage.
The key principles of the GelrinC Mode of Action have been demonstrated by in-vitro and in-vivo studies.
